The April newsletter introduced the new Learn A New Trail (LANT) program for Volunteer Wilderness Rangers (VWRs) and their guests. This program allows any VWR to learn a new trail by hiking with a VWR who knows the trail well. You'll learn exactly where the trailhead is, where to park, and how to follow the route without getting tripped up by social trails or braided sections. After the hike, you'll be better prepared to talk to the public about the trail should you decide to do a patrol there. (We hope you will!)
Take a look at the ESWA Event Calendar to see what LANT hikes are coming up. As of today, there are just two (July 7, Gore Lake) (August 15, Ptarmigan Peak), but more will be added soon. The “Learn a New Trail” page on the Volunteer section of the ESWA website has general information about the program, and forthcoming editions of this newsletter will list upcoming LANT hikes.
Any VWR can volunteer to lead a Learn A New Trail hike on a trail they know and love. For more information about volunteering to lead a hike, contact Mike Weeda at MikeLWeeda@gmail.com.
