Protect Our Wilderness

The Trump Administration is trying to repeal vital protection for America’s roadless areas.

Each year ESWA’s trained sawyers clear over 1,000 trees that fall across trails in the Eagles Nest, Holy Cross, and Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness Areas using only hand saws. We have proven that motorized chain saws are NOT required to maintain Wilderness Trails.

The Eagle Summit Wilderness Alliance (ESWA) supports Alternative 3 of the U.S. Forest Service's Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Sweetwater Lake Recreation Management and Development Project.

A major restructuring of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), announced on March 31 by the Trump administration, could significantly reshape how our public lands are managed—and not for the better. The plan would eliminate the agency’s nine regional offices, including the Region 2 office in Lakewood that supports Colorado, and replace them with a new “state-based” system. It also relocates national leadership out of Washington, D.C. and consolidates research and administrative fun

The result of decades of collaboration, CORE would add 20,196 precious acres to our three local Wilderness Areas.

The Wilderness needs your help! The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is attempting to repeal its 2009 Endangerment Finding, which allows, and requires, the EPA to regulate emissions from new motor vehicles and other sources.
