Have you stumbled up that steep, rocky, deeply eroded trail above the Meadow Creek trailhead? We need your help to rescue this trail before it is so deeply eroded that it has to be rerouted, tearing up more of the forest. This project will close the Meadow Creek Trail and Parking Lot from May 19 to August 2 up to the Lily Pad Lake junction. The trail may be opened on weekends, TBD.
In June the USFS, with some help from ESWA volunteers, will spend 4 weeks preparing the check steps. This includes using a grader to get the area ready for steps. Later in July, two RMYC crews will complete the steps - again with help from ESWA.
Check steps are 12- and 16-foot 8x8 timbers secured by rebar. ESWA purchased these in the fall and they’ve been drying over the winter. The June work will include leveling out the trail tread from the trailhead to the Lily Pad Lake trail, and cutting areas for the check step timbers, cutting dips for water flow, and preparing for a culvert. Also, during this period, the timbers will be transported to their location. In July, the check steps will be installed and the tread repair.
