About the event
The Meadow Creek trail and trailhead will be closed every day from May 19 to June 14 while crews use machinery to build trail foundation and erosion control features. Construction will continue from June 15 to Aug. 2, but the trail and trailhead will be closed on weekdays only. There will be a “Type 3 Barrier” on the traffic circle to keep traffic out.
In June the USFS, with some ESWA help, will spend 4 weeks preparing the check steps. This includes using a grader to get the area ready for steps. Later in July, two RMYC crews will complete the steps, with help from ESWA.
Check steps are 12- and 16-foot 8x8 timbers secured by rebar. ESWA purchased these in the fall and they have been drying over the winter. The June work will include leveling out the trail tread from the trailhead to the Lilly Pad Lake trail, and cutting areas for the check step timbers, cutting dips for water flow, and preparing for a culvert. Also, during this period, the timbers will be transported to their location. In July, the check steps will be installed and the tread repair.
RMYC will have two 10 person crews on site for three weeks starting July 15.
