Writer's pictureHowdy!

Summer is in Full Bloom!

WELCOME TO OUR 33 NEW VOLUNTEER WILDERNESS RANGERS!

On June 1, ESWA and the USFS trained 23 new VWRs. And on June 29 we trained 10 more. Thanks to everyone who made this year’s training a huge success. Let’s get out there for some patrolling and trailhead hosting!

WILLOW CREEK BRIDGE COMPLETED!

ESWA and the USFS have built a new bridge across Willow Creek, replacing the three slippery logs that were there before. This was possible because of a generous donation by MaryAnn Gaug to purchase the bridge materials. For more about the bridge read Tom Copper's excellent Get Wild article, Building a Bridge in the Wilderness.”

Witness the Herculean effort it took to move one of the logs to decommission the old bridge!

ACTION ALERT - SAY NO TO WHEELS IN WILDERNESS!

We're not against mountain bikes in the forest. In fact, many of our members love to mountain bike. However, we want to preserve our Wilderness Areas as untrammeled places of peace for current and future generations, and for the wildlife that makes these areas home. For 60 years, the Wilderness Act has protected designated Wilderness Areas from machines of all types, including cars, trucks, ATVs, OHVs, snowmobiles, bicycles, and all other types of motorized and mechanized transport.Senator Mike Lee’s (R-UT) S. 4561 would weaken the Wilderness Act and potentially blast open every Wilderness in the nation to mountain bikes and other forms of mechanized transportation.

Our friends at Wilderness Watch have made it easy HERE to let your elected representatives know that you oppose  this ill-conceived bill.

CHECK OUT ESWA’S NEW WEBSITE!

Notice that our website refresh is live at https://www.wild4eswa.org. The new website provides a modern look and feel and has some great capabilities, including the ability to sign up for all of our events at https://www.wild4eswa.org/eswa-events. We're still working to make sure the new website looks good on as many devices as possible, but because of the new functionality, we're using it extensively for events and news posts.

The old website remains functional but we will likely redirect the old URL to the new website in the coming weeks. After that time, either wild4eswa.org or eaglesummitwilderness.org will take you to the same site.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the website refresh possible!
