We're pleased to announce that the 2026 Sawyer Certification Class is now open for enrollment. The class will be held June 12-13. The first day will be in-person classroom training in Silverthorne, Colorado and the second day will be in-field training somewhere in the Wilderness in Summit or Eagle County, Colorado.
We're prioritizing class openings for people who need recertification or who have previously joined one of our Sawyer outings. However, once positions are filled with those people, we'll add people who haven't volunteered as Sawyers with us but have shown a willingness to support us in the future. Because of this, everyone who signs up will be put on a wait list. We'll notify you by mid-May if you have been selected for the course.
Pre-requisites are to do some pre-course online work and to have a valid (current) First Aid with CPR certification. If chosen for the class and you need a First Aid with CPR certification, we'll prioritize you for our ESWA First Aid class on May 9th.
Keep in mind that you don't need to be certified to volunteer with ESWA as a Sawyer. You can join us at any Sawyer event and do the same work as our certified Sawyers. The only difference is that you can't lead one of our outings and you must be supervised by one of our certified Sawyers.
You can sign up for the May 9th First Aid course here.
