Our hardworking Sawyers cleared 777 trees blocking Wilderness trails. Their essential work (850 hours!) helps users stay on existing trail corridors, avoiding trail widening and side trails.
Our Volunteer Wilderness Rangers had another great patrol and trailhead hosting year.
PATROLS:
98 different patrollers
452 total patrols (347 unique patrols)
1,682 patrol hours
3,121 miles patrolled
10,240 individuals encountered in 4,336 groups (singles count as a group)
889 individual overnight users encountered in 356 groups
5,871 individuals talked with in 4,336 groups
369 fire safety conversations had
1,314 dogs on trails, 71% of which were on leash
TRAILHEAD HOSTING:
20 different TH Hosts
34 trailhead-host session over 128 hours
And when we add in volunteer hours from day and backcountry work trips, ESWA is over 3,000 hours out in the Wilderness to preserve the wild lands we cherish – and that doesn’t even include the “back-office” planning hours!
