Cindy Ebbert, USFS, retired, has been an enthusiastic advocate for both the enjoyment and the protection of designated Wilderness, in her professional career as well as in her personal life. Cindy played a vital role for ESWA as our Forest Service liaison, especially helping with the development of our Volunteer Wilderness Ranger program (begun in 2005), and with our Sawyer, Trails and Noxious Weeds programs.
Cindy came to Summit County in 1999 as a seasonal Wilderness Ranger for the Dillon Ranger District and then obtained the full-time position as Trails and Wilderness Manager in 2007, during which years she explored extensively in the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area. In 2021, she accepted a USFS position as Realty Specialist (Lands and Minerals) at DRD, but she still occasionally assisted ESWA.
Outside her official duties, Cindy volunteers with Summit Search and Rescue crews, and enjoys canoeing, hiking, and backpacking. Cindy retired from the Forest Service in 2025. Thanks to her long time support of our Wilderness, she is most deserving of the Currie Craven award and we are grateful for all she has done for public lands.
