2024 ESWA Sawyer Training Completed!

Writer: Howdy!Howdy!

Updated: Jun 12, 2024

Many thousands of trees fall in our Eagle & Summit County Wilderness areas every year. Over 1,000 of these thousands happen to fall on our trails and need to be cleared. Clearing these trees takes a large group of both certified and uncertified volunteers.

ESWA has approximately 80 volunteer Sawyers. Most of these Sawyers have been trained on the job. However, in order to lead these volunteers, the USFS requires that the group leader be certified by the USFS to a Class-B Bucker or higher.

Of our 80 volunteers, approximately 25 are certified and we grow the list of certified Sawyers by holding an annual 2.5 day training each year with 2 full days in the field.

This year's training was led by USFS certified instructor Anne Dal Vera and held this past Fri-Sat, Jun 7-9 and included 5 new certifications and 7 recertifications. Our volunteers persevered through rain and hail and all completed their certification.

Congratulations to our 2024 Sawyer Class!
