Susie has been a tireless and indefatigable advocate for Wilderness for over 30 years,
championing new Wilderness designations and expansions in both Summit and Eagle County. As the Eagle County coordinator with Wilderness Workshop, she has worked for passage of the Colorado Outdoor Recreation an Economy (CORE) Act. She helped protect the confluence of the Colorado and Eagle Rivers from a proposed gravel mine at Dotsero, defending the local ecosystem and communities. In 2022, Susie met with President Biden when he visited and designated the nation’s first National Historic Landscape at Camp Hale, safeguarding 54,000 acres of historic land where the 10 th Mountain Division once trained during World War II.
She has led numerous camps to involve young women in the outdoors and Wilderness. Susie shares her deep spiritual connection to the natural world in multiple ways, including her work as a certified nature-based personal coach and her leadership with the Women’s Empowerment Workshop. These ventures help others connect with the healing power of nature.
Susie is often referred to as a “Force of Nature” by those who know her, as she brings her indomitable enthusiasms with relentless but gentle and friendly energy to bear on Wilderness-related issues both big and small.
