Many thanks to Wilderness Ranger Intern Eli Howard for another successful summer in the Eagle-Holy Cross District. Eli's position was funded by ESWA, through Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. He was in the field weekly from Thursday to Sunday, with multiple overnights, doing trail maintenance, campfire mitigation, public education – and wrangling our favorite llamas! Best of luck to Eli as he returns to university for the semester. Next year, in light of federal funding cuts – and through our new fundraising efforts - we hope to meet the USFS’s request for up to 4 Seasonal Wilderness Rangers. Donate to ESWA!

ESWA was able to give a big THANK YOU and show of appreciation to our hard-working Forest Service colleagues! We provided lunch (thank you Snarfs) and desserts to some 80 USFS colleagues on both sides of the Pass. ESWA made a brief presentation about our history with the USFS, recent accomplishments, and future goals to support Wilderness. Events like these are good for morale, and strengthen our bonds with the USFS. Special thanks to Frances Hartogh, Mike Browning, Steve Gray, and Anju Sidhu for coordinating these events.
