Mesa Cortina Trail Cleared!

Writer's picture: Howdy!Howdy!

Seven ESWA Volunteer Sawyers cleared the Mesa Cortina and a portion of the Gore Range Trail today. Approximately 40 trees were cleared by the team primarily on the GRT. A portion of the Mesa Cortina trail had already been cleared by someone with a chainsaw. Not only is that illegal in the Wilderness but the chainsaw cuts were not wide enough and we will eventually have to go back in and do cutbacks. In addition, we had previously scouted the area to make our crew plan and had to change our plan at the last minute when we found that the trail had been mostly cleared either the day or a few days before.

We encourage everyone to help us clear trees from the trails - but to do it legally with the proper tools and as part of a USFS sponsored organization such as ESWA. If you're out there cutting trees and not part of an official group, please join us: https://www.wild4eswa.org/volunteer-sawyers
