About the event
ESWA will be assisting the USFS with a bridge replacement project on the Missouri Lakes trail. The work will take place approximately .2 miles from the trailhead so it will not involve excessive hiking. The work will take place in two phases: September 8-11 and September 15-18. Time commitment each day would be 8 am to 4pm or any 2-3 hours within that time frame (see below for more details). The USFS is asking ESWA to provide 3-5 volunteers each of the days over these two time periods. You can sign up for one or multiple days in either week. The trailhead is approximately 50 minutes from I-70 and carpooling is encouraged.
We’re being asked to do a number of tasks in each of these weeks that range from easy to strenuous:
Most strenuous
Being part of a team moving 33-foot logs approx. 0.2 mile from staging area to bridge location. (This is planned to be Sept 8-10 only).
Assisting crew lead with construction and placement of rock abutments and sill logs. (This is planned to be Sept 9-10 only).
Moderately strenuous
Perform standard VWR patrols along the Missouri Lakes trail for more presence during the project.
Less strenuous
Perform crowd control for trail users during log hauling and rerouting hikers through a planned detour while work is going on.
Provide refreshments and snacks for work crews during project. (More focused on the middle of the day, 11am to 1 pm, each day)
